Is Beyonce the answer to gun violence in the US?
Ladies and gentlemen: Beyoncé is!
When it comes to gun violence, anyway, that’s what hip-hop mogul Michael “Blue” Williams believes. The Family Tree Entertainment president has suggested that Ms. Knowles could play a crucial role in getting guns off the streets by offering concert tickets to those who turn in their weapons under the buyback program Guns for Greatness.
The Beyoncé show is coming to Brooklyn; the Jay-Z show is coming to Yankee Stadium. Our goal is to reach out to individuals who are in my industry, in my world and who I have an association with and get their support,” Williams told the New York Daily News.
Williams has already raised $75,000 for Guns for Greatness, which will be the first private gun buyback program in New York City if its approved by the NYPD, who would be involved in its operations.
Williams says he was motivated to launch the program after hip-hop manager Chris Lighty shot himself last year. “It was just sort of like a pushing point,” Williams said. “It eventually convinced me that one person can make a difference if they believe in something.”
