Yayyyyy! A new season of Big Brother Africa is about to kick off and i promised to bring you every single update so you don’t miss out. I have a specially dedicated category for this on the menu bar to make it easier for you to find all Big Brother HotShot stories as it happens.
Before we delve into the thrilling experience, here’s a scoop of the first 6 housemates unveiled by Big Brothr Africa. Meet them now!
Actor, Radio Drama Director and MC Alusa from Nairobi, Kenya, is married and has three children. His favourite food is ugali with chicken stew and traditional vegetables. His favourite book is TD Jakesâ€™ He-Motions and he likes watching National Geographic, The Exes and Nigerian movies on TV. On the music front, he enjoys listening to Sauti-Sol, Mafikizolo, P.Square, Youssou Nâ€™Dour and Salif Keita. One of his favourite films, Training Day, features one of his favourite actors: Denzel Washington.
Describing himself as â€˜ambitious, spiritual, out-spoken, generous and mysteriousâ€™, Alusa likes people who are â€˜detailedâ€™ and who have a good sense of humour, because he likes to laugh. He doesnâ€™t enjoy people who â€˜emit negative energyâ€™.
He entered Big Brother Hotshots for the exposure, as well as the intrigue of living with total strangers in a closed environment and the desire to share his lifestyle with a huge audience. Alusa is looking forward to having the continent watching him: â€˜Iâ€™m an artist, a performer, so I love attention. Iâ€™m not in the least bit intimidated, in fact, Iâ€™m thrilledâ€™
Alusa lists Mombasa and his village of Kakamega as his favourite places in Kenya, because theyâ€™re both very exotic in their ways and rich culture. He says the best thing about Africa is the people. â€˜Africans are both beautiful in form and diverse culture,â€™ he says. Outside of Africa, his favourite place is Brazil. â€˜Rich culture, beautiful women, sweet samba music, festivals, food â€“ I could go on and on,â€™ he says.
Ellah is a Sales Assistant with a BSc in Business Computing from Nsambya, Uganda. She lists her favourite foods as ravioli, rice and chicken and her favourite books as Think Like A Man, Act Like A Lady, and Nice Girls Donâ€™t Get Rich. She enjoys watching Reality shows like Real Housewives of Atlanta, New York and Orange County. Her favourite singers include India Arie, August Alsina, Beyonce, Rihanna and Sam Smith.
Her favourite place in Uganda is the Lake Bunyonyi Resort and she says the best thing about Africa is â€˜the warmness of the peopleâ€™. Outside of her home country, she says Cambodia is â€˜a hidden gem and somewhat a free countryâ€™. Ellah has 12 brothers and sisters and says her Mom is her role model: â€˜her strength and character captivate meâ€™.
Ellah is most proud of having become Miss Uganda 2013/14 because â€˜it was a stiff competition and a strong test for meâ€™. She was inspired to enter Big Brother Hotshots because of the fact that â€˜it unites Africa and also is a platform for me to advanceâ€™. She says sheâ€™s â€˜super excited and is looking forward to being on the show.
She describes herself as â€˜charismatic, bitchy, outspoken, loving and sophisticatedâ€™ and says that sheâ€™s â€˜strong and determinedâ€™. She values â€˜honesty, charisma and joyfulnessâ€™ in others, but dislikes â€˜lies and fakenessâ€™. If she wins the grand prize, Ellah will buy cars for her mom and invest the rest in real estate.
Butterphly is a Radio, Television Presenter and Producer from Harare. She lists her favourite foods as meat, pasta with cheese, black-eyed peas and eggs. Her favourite books include the Bible, The Firm, The Long Goodbye, and the Sherlock Holmes series. She likes to watch Chopped, 24, Intelligence and Big Brother Africa.
Butterphly entered Big Brother Hotshots because sheâ€™d always wanted to be part of a national sports team, but never got the chance. â€˜Being on Big Brother Africa will allow me to take the opportunity to market myself and expand my brandâ€™. She says she wonâ€™t use â€˜backstabbing and cheatingâ€™ or immoral and unethical methods to get the prize. If she wins, sheâ€™ll send her sister, brother and kids to really good schools, start a chain of unique food, social and fashion hangout joints and take her mom shopping.
Describing herself as â€˜unique, feisty, mysterious, fun-loving and wittyâ€™, Butterphly says that people are always shocked when they discover that sheâ€™s humble, compassionate and kind. She likes other people with a sense of humour, honour and truthfulness, and dislikes â€˜dishonesty and people who pretend to like a personâ€™.
Her mom is her role model: â€˜she put her life on pause so ours could play. Sheâ€™s the hardest working woman I knowâ€™. Butterphly says he draws influence from â€˜all sorts of peopleâ€™. â€˜Ordinary, young, dead, legends â€“ in everyoneâ€™s life story I try to extract important lessons like resilience, faith, strength etc. I learn as much as I can from the people I meet or read about,â€™ she says.
Bachelor of Fine Arts theatre student Goitse hails from Mahalapye in Botswana. â€˜Home, Sweet Homeâ€™ is her favourite place â€“ â€˜the comfort, a home-cooked meal and my family just make it my favouriteâ€™, she says.
She says the best thing about Africa is its history: â€˜itâ€™s so rich with history of what our forefathers have gone throughâ€™. South Africa is her favourite place outside of Botswana because she has â€˜met great people there who have become family. They also have a range of interesting official languagesâ€™, which are similar to those in Botswana.
Goitse says she entered Big Brother Hotshots for the adventure. â€˜People from different countries in Africa, all under one roof, no contact with the outside world in any way? Now thatâ€™s amazing!â€™ she says. In her quest for the prize, she wonâ€™t pretend to be someone sheâ€™s not and if she wins, sheâ€™ll use the money to open a dance studio. â€˜That will be a dream come true,â€™ she says. â€˜I havenâ€™t decided on what elseâ€™.
She says her mom is her role model â€“ â€˜sheâ€™s a fighter and a survivor. Sheâ€™s been through a lot of hardships, but she stands tall and strong. She always pushed me to be the best I can be, no matter how challenging it can getâ€™.
Goitse describes herself as â€˜carefree, free-spirited, fun, energetic and motivatedâ€™.
Pint-sized student Esther hails from Ugandaâ€™s Nsambya . She says she entered Big Brother Hotshots to connect with people from different countries, and to help her expose her talents, something she sees as â€˜a very big inspirationâ€™. Sheâ€™s looking forward to giving Africa the chance to see her â€˜true selfâ€™ and describes herself as â€˜meek, bubbly, creative, truthful and lovingâ€™. Esther likes the fact that sheâ€™s â€˜bubbly, friendly and outgoingâ€™.
Her favourite foods are mashed potato and chicken tikka masala, her favourite book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad and her favourite musician, Rihanna. She likes The Wendy Williams Show and her favourite actress is Zoe Saldanha. Esther says that Jinja is her favourite place in Uganda, which she describes as â€˜the pearl of Africaâ€™. Outside of her home country, she sees California as â€˜the place of dreams and funâ€™.
The most influential person in Estherâ€™s life is her brother Fred, because â€˜he has been there for me and he always will beâ€™.
Esther promises viewers â€˜unique skills, entertainment and being myself alwaysâ€™. If she wins, she plans to invest some of the money, donate some to charity and support her family and career.
Idris is a photographer from Arusha in Tanzania. His favourite books are â€˜anything by Dan Brownâ€™ and he enjoys watching The Colbert Report, Drunk History, The Daily Show and The Ellen Degeneres Show on TV. His musical tastes are quite varied: Chris Brown, Michael Jackson, Usher, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Lana Del Ray and Nina Simone are his favourites.
Idris says he doesnâ€™t have one specific role model, choosing instead to take the best from every successful person he meets. That said, his Mom has influenced his life most. Heâ€™s most proud of the respect heâ€™s earned by showcasing his skill and creativity in photography.
He was inspired to enter Big Brother Hotshots because he wants to inspire people and make a name for myself in the process,â€™ he says. He feels â€˜thrilled, excited and accomplished, totally specialâ€™ that the continent will be watching him on the show and describes himself as â€˜smart, charming, funny, flirty and creativeâ€™.
